godaddy and ftp problem

Dave, thanks for the input below. I did as you said and moved it over
here...good call. Second thing, I am using Pub 2003, and have XPP, not 2002,
as I wrote below. So, with that being said, I'm still having problems trying
to upload my site. I did download the latest service pack for office 2003 as
well.

So, here's the error I'm getting:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Also, per the instructions, it says after I click publish to the web, I
should see something in the save drop down box that says "Add/Modify FTP
locations". I don't have that at all. Mine only gives me the name of the file
and "Web Page, Filtered" is the only thing that shows up.

I did download the coffeecup.com FTP program thinking that might do it, but
it doesn't look like it did the trick.

So my fiancee doesn't kill me, someone help this poor sap with his website!

Thanks all, in advance.

In the future you don't need google, I recommend you use
http://www.publishermvps.com and also be sure to address your web site
issues to the proper forum at microsoft.public.publisher.webdesign and to
use that forum to learn from others.
You should review the FAQ at
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=30 to learn about the common
mistakes and gotcha's before you have them.
As you are a 2002 user I strongly recommend you update to SP3 if have not
done so. The link for service packs are on our home page
http://www.publishermvps.com . I strongly urge you to install this update
before saving and publishing your site.
The web pub tool the godaddy instructions cover is a tool that Microsoft
deprecated quite some time ago and it is not even supplied in Windows XP.
Publisher webs should always be uploaded from Publisher. You can go to
Publisher help and search on "publish" for directions on the upload process
( the help would have been faster then the googleing imo ) or you can find
publish directions at http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=33 (
written in 2003 but the only difference is 2002 requires you to save the web
as "index.htm" whereas 2003 defaults to the file name ).

Dave, thanks for the input below. I did as you said and moved it over

your welcome. that's why I make the big bucks. ( I wish ;-)
Second thing, I am using Pub 2003, and have XPP, not 2002,

slap your wrist for the mistake.
So, with that being said, I'm still having problems trying

SP 1, good.
So, here's the error I'm getting:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

sounds like the server isn't set up correctly or you are using the wrong
directory on the server. you'd have to get with your host support on this.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
ErrorDocument to handle the request.

again ask the host on this one.
Also, per the instructions, it says after I click publish to the web, I
should see something in the save drop down box that says "Add/Modify FTP
locations". I don't have that at all. Mine only gives me the name of the
file
and "Web Page, Filtered" is the only thing that shows up.

Look closer, there are 2 different drop downs in the publish to web dialog
window (actually there are 3 total), one is called "save in" and one is
called "save as type" - one is for browsing the folder structure and one is
for modifying file type, this is standard Windows stuff.

the save in box has the ftp location you need to select in order to create
an ftp location and then turn around and use that ftp location.

I'm a little confused, if you haven't even got this figured out then how did
you get to the point of the errors you posted?

I did download the coffeecup.com FTP program thinking that might do it,
but
it doesn't look like it did the trick.

I recommend that uploading be done in Publisher instead of an external ftp
client. If you do it manually then it becomes possible for you to make a
mistake and find the site doesn't work.

So my fiancee doesn't kill me, someone help this poor sap with his
website!

if she has violent tendencies you may want to rethink that ;-)
