Going insane! Position a drawing object

A

amstras

hi all,

Everytime we add a new drawing object and move it to its desired location,
Word 2000 automatically re-position the existing objects to a new location,
which is very annoying.

All we want is for Word 2000 (9.0.2720) to leave the existing objects where
they are, allowing us to move the new ones to the desired location.

We've read the "Position a drawing object in relation to page, text, or
other anchor" on Word Help, tried different vertical and horizontal position
modes, but it did not work

Any ideas how to set Word 2000 to not alter the positioning of existing
drawing objects?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Amstras,

One thing you do need to watch out for is where the cursor is positioned when
you insert the new object. Generally, if it's NOT in "plain text", you can
run into problems.

If this doesn't help, can you describe more accurately HOW Word is
re-positioning things? Is it not allowing overlaps, for example?

Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the reply. We eventually found that the problem is related to the
wrapping style.

I don't know why, but everytime we insert a drawing object, Word 2000
assigns "Square" wrapping style as opposed to our preferred "In Front of
Text".

If we change the property to "In Front of Text", then we have what we want.

BTW, do you know how to change the default wrapping style on Word 2000. We
prefer to have "In Front of Text".

thanks for your help

Trajano

You need a macro to change the default wrapping style in Word 2000. In Word
2002, this can be set through the UI (Tools | Options | Edit).
