GoodSync to sync Outlook Personal Files

I purchased a product called GoodSync that purportedly syncs up the
Outlook.pst files between a desktop and a laptop - but I’m having a
heck of a time with it (it works great for everything else) - and I
love the program but their support leaves a lot to be desired!

I was using the Outlook back-up utility so I don’t know if that is
what is messing everything up, but when I set the path for Goodsync
and then run analyze is see the files - when I hit sync - the laptop
is apparently denying access to the process. When I asked GoodSync
support - they talked about setting permissions on the laptop - but
from what I can tell, that is only accurate for using this with public
folders / Exchange - and mine is a Personal folder.

Any hints where to look to get this to finally work for me?

Hard to say; haven't tried GoodSync and I'm not familiar with their syncing
process. My guess is that they access the pst-file via your LAN. From what I
understand by, quickly looking at their website, they do a complete file
copy and do not look into the pst-file (so actually it has nothing specific
to do with Outlook on that level). This means you must set appropriate
permissions on the files/folders so that your other computer initiating the
sync has access to it and can write on your laptop. This also means Outlook
must be closed on your laptop or it will have a lock on the file.

Well I stumbled my way into making it work - but yes I have discovered
what you state - it is not bi-directional syncing. So I have spent the
afternoon examining the various programs mentioned on the slipstick
website - PSTSync, EZOutlookSync - etc - is there one that is better
than the other?

Since I plan to leave a copy of the mail on the server from my laptop
- what I am most concerned about having is the "sent" mail maintained.
That's why I have been looking for a way to use my Outlook on the road
and don't just like to read/respond to email online. Now that I have
discovered that I can use gmail to send email out of Outlook - now I'm
trying to tackle the syncing beast again.

Course if I leave the email on the server - will I end up with a ton
of duplicates? (I get a ton of email!)

Leaving a copy on the server shouldn't matter.

That one looked like it was just for groups on Exchange - it can be
used for personal folders?

Yes, that works without Exchange. The page tries to stress a bit too much
that it is also compatible with Exchange that you indeed get the impression
that it only works with Exchange.
