Goofed up my Office v.X installation

Oh, man. This is a bit long but I'd sure appreciate some guidance.
I've just completed the switch from OS9 to Panther (woohoo!) and as a
part of that I decided to switch my Office:Mac 2001 to Office v.X. But
I used my husband's CD of Office v.X to install and now, because we
are on a home ethernet DSL network, we get a "this program is already
in use" kind of message when we both try to use Office at the same
time. Rats.

•Is there some kind of switch I can flip to make the computers
standalone as far as Office v.X is concerned but still let us use the
DSL ethernet network?

•Do I need to buy my own Office v.X CD?
If so,
•Do I have to get the full program or can I use the upgrade package
that says it will upgrade from Office:Mac 2001 (which I still have
somewhere in my OS9)?

•Do I have to remove the current install of Office v.X and, if so,
will I lose all my Entourage info that I so carefully transferred over
as well as the updates (10.1.2, 10.1.4, 10.1.5) I downloaded and
installed?

Thanks in advance for your help; my head's still spinning a little
from all the changes I've made today.

It's technically feasible, but a violation of your license.

The Office v.X license allows you to install one copy of Office on a
desktop and one on a laptop, though you are still restricted in
using the same app at the same time.

You can use the upgrade package.
•Do I have to remove the current install of Office v.X and, if

No. Once you get your new license with a new CD key you can delete
these files (with all Office apps closed):

~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Microsoft Office Settings (10)
HD/Applications/Microsoft Office X/Office/OfficePID

(where ~ is your home directory). The latter file is hidden, so
you'll need to use the Finder's Find command. Add a search
criterion: Visibility: invisible items.

Start up an Office app and you'll be asked for your new key.

Even if you used the Remove Office application from the Value pack
folder on the install CD, your Entourage data would stay safely in
the Microsoft User Data (MUD) folder. Remove Office doesn't touch
the MUD folder.

Thank you! I totally get the licensing thing now. Guess I've always
seen my husband and myself as one legal entity ;-) And I really
appreciate the reassurance about not losing my data when I switch.
I've learned so much from reading these forums.
