Goofing up while under the hood

Group,

In trying to become more productive I somehow wacked out my Microsoft
Word setup.

It started after I tried to assign a keystrokes to insert a little box
and a little box with a check mark.
This way I could instert the boxes instead of using bullets. I think
I chose the wrong series of keys and while I think I removed the
assignments Word acts weird in one very painful way.

It seems that when I highlight text and hit the backspace or any
character the highlighted text does not get deleted. Instead I insert
the space before the highlighted section or if I hit backspace the
cursor removes the highlight and moves to beginning of the section I
originally highlighted.

The only way for me to remove the hightlighted text is to use the
delete key.

I thought it might be related to having insert on or off but no luck.
This problem only seems to happen in Word. Other apps like Excel and
PowerPoint give me the expected results when I try the same thing.

Thanks for any input people can provide.

Sam

In Word, click on Tools | Options | Edit tab | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK.
