Google desktop search plug-in pleeeeeze...

Hi,

can one of the programmers reading the list cook up a OneNote plug-in for
Google Desktop search?

http://desktop.google.com/developer.html
they'll even send you a t-shirt if you make one. :)

and you get promoted on their plug-ins page.

I think it's just a matter of using google desktop's sdk to make it
recognize the .one file format. not a big job I suspect, but I'm still
learning how to program "hello world", so it's still a bit advanced for me.

cheers,
rodberry

I read somewhere just this week, I believe it was in one of Woody Leonhard's
Office Watch newsletters that the next version of the Google Desktop engine
will have such a beast built-in. In the meantime, I plug-in *would* be
great, eh?

The main reason why I want to use Google search is because I can have it
search my Web cache/history. It looks like Windows Search can not do that.
The box for the location of the cache files is greyed out so that folder can
not be searched. Otherwise I don't have many issues with Windows search.

Seriously wrong.
WDS does that pretty fine!

For WDS 3.0 there used to be an Add-on for the search in the IE-history.
It worked pretty fine for me.

IIRC this might meanwhile be built-in in WDS 4.0

If you have not yet done so, install the WDS 4.0 update [1]
Otherwise I don't have many issues with Windows search.

No doubt about that:
WDS 4.0 is a fantastic system.

Do yourself a favour and uninstall Google desktop (there absolute is no
use in having Google desktop besides WDS <!!>) and update to WDS 4.0.
It's fantastic, believe me.

Hmmm...well, can't help you there. It could be there's a way to
configure WDS to search the web cache/history but I'm not a WDS
expert. You might ask in one of the newsgroups for your operating
system.

FWIW:
Alreday for WDS 3.0 there was an Add-on for enabling the search in the
IE history.

AAFAICS it's now built-in in WDS 4.0.
