Gosht email in MS Entourage for Mac

Hi all,
Today I saw next to my Inbox folder the number (1) indicating I got
one email, however there is no email in my Inbox, it looks empty and
every time I click on the Inbox folder icon or any other folder icon,
Entourage quits. I can't figure out what the problem is. I wonder
whether is a virus.
I would appreciate any help on solving this mistery. I can send and
receive emails but I can't open my Inbox. If I click it... the
application quits.
Please help.
Thanks,
Javier

This sounds like database corruption. Let's check a couple of things
first....

1. Look under View in the menu bar and see if you have Flagged only
selected.

2. If the message is corrupt....

One new trick with Entourage 2004 is that you can start it up from default
settings - i.e. with Send & Receive All schedule OFF (Manual only) - by
holding down the Shift key at startup - like "Extensions Off" when starting
up your Mac. This allows Entourage to launch without crashing in situations
like this. You could then turn off Preview Pane and check the server looking
for the suspect message.

If you have POP accounts, you'd do it by using your Webmail account or use
Allow Online Access in the Options window of the account settings. Next,
select the server icon now appearing in the Folders List and turn off
Preview Pane.

If IMAP, Exchange or Hotmail just check your Inbox and folders affected by
rules with Preview Pane turned off.)
Delete the message (which actually marks it for Deletion from the server),
connect to the server (Send & Receive All).

How to rebuild database:

How to rebuild database:

Ooops, for to add the info...

How to rebuild database:

As with any procedure like rebuild, it¹s a good idea to make a backup prior
to running. Your data should not be erased, but if something fails during
this process data could be lost. To be doubly sure, duplicate your Identity
folder prior to the rebuild.

Make sure you have enough hard disk space available for twice the size of
your database. As part of the rebuilding process, Entourage creates a second
database file. (Note: your HD also needs breathing room to function)

1. On the Entourage menu, click Turn Off Office Reminders.
2. Quit Messenger and all Microsoft Office applications, including
Entourage.

Hold down the Option key and re-launch the application. In a few seconds,
you¹ll be greeted with the database utility. You can verify and, if
necessary, rebuild the Entourage database by using the Microsoft Database
Utility.

During the rebuild process, the old files are renamed in case for some
reason the rebuild was not successful. After you¹ve rebuilt your database
and checked the application¹s performance, you can delete the old version
from your hard drive. Do NOT throw away these files unless you are satisfied
with the rebuild:

Old files are named:

Main [Backed up date and time will be shown]
e.g. Main [Backed up 1.21.2007 13.35]

Thanks Diane,
I'm using the Entourage that comes with the Office v.x not Office
2004. Anyway I have set up so automatically downloads the emails from
the server so the server is empty. The emails keep coming but I can't
access the Inbox folder or any other folder. As soon as I click on any
of them the application crashes. Is there anyway I can get to the
downloaded emails in my computer so I can check for corrupted emails?
Thanks so much,
Javier

What version of Entourage X?

When you say server, is this an exchange account or do you mean your ISP
server? Is this a POP or IMAP account?

To access these corrupt message, use your web account to access your email.

You don't mention which Inbox.

It really helps to know all of your specifics when you ask for help. You
don't mention what version of the OS your are using. Is that updated?

First Entourage X is "end of life" software. When the unique change for
Daylight Saving Time occurred this year, it required updates to

The Mac OS
Your software
Your server software (for exchange accounts)

In addition to the Mac OS X updates listed above, the Java environment
requires an additional update for compatibility with the time zone and DST
changes described above.

There was an unofficial workaround for Entourage X.
