I have a network with several hundred Windows 2000 PCs. All have OfficeXP
Pro installed through a GPO. Last night, I applied K822036, KB826293,
KB824938, and KB824934 patches to the Administrative Installation Point (on
a DFS Share) and ran a script on the PC's to recache and reinstall the
updated files. All of this works fine, however if I put a new computer into
the OU applying the OfficeXP Installation GPO (assigned to the computer),
the install fails with the following event:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Management
Event Category: None
Event ID: 102
Date: 10/9/2003
Time: 9:35:26 AM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: Computername
Description:
The install of application Microsoft Office XP Professional from policy
OfficeXP failed. The error was The installation source for this product is
not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. .

This worked fine before patching the share. Domain Computers and Domain
Users have read access to the installation sharepoints and the files contain
within them so it isn't a permissions problem.
I suspect that my GPO doesn't recognize the patched .msi file as the same
one the policy was created on.
Is there a way to fix this so that the existing GPO stays applied to the
current OU's, but uses the new .msi file without re-deploying OfficeXP to
all existing computers?
