Gradual upgrade to WSS 3.0 with existing Project Server 2003

Hi all,

I am in the planning process of upgrading our current Project Server
2003/WSS 2.0. In our environment, the Project Server was implemented
with no mandate or governance and with our company growth, it somewhat
got abandoned (actual project server functionality unused). What ended
up happening is that WSS 2.0 was being used often for ease of
collaboration.

We had just completed our EA and now I am tasked with planning out our
upgrade roadmap. Because WSS provides our organization with a nice
solution and added business values, I wanted to steer us towards
taking care of WSS 2.0 > WSS 3.0 > MOSS 2007 upgrade path first. My
original thought was to re-introduce Project Server 2007 afterwards.

Currently, everything is installed on a single server. From this forum
and other indicators, Project Server 2003 doesn't seem to work well
with WSS 3.0 so that puts a little damper on the plan. I know that
next year will be mostly to finalize the planning process and
budgeting for new equipment/software packages, but I also wanted to
start the upgrade from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0.

Considering my current environment with Project Server 2003/WSS 2.0
all on one server. Would it be feasible to perform a gradual upgrade
of WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 and still have a working Project Server 2003?
Since gradual upgrade does not install over WSS 2.0, I am thinking
that I could still have the Project Server 2003/WSS 2.0 while also
have WSS 3.0 for general SharePoint usage. Has anyone had success with
this? Let me know if this is even possible.

Any help and clarification is greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!
Phillip
