Graham Mayor - Mail Merge Graphics Issue

J

Jeff Bendert

Hello,

Word 2002 - Windows XP

A couple of weeks ago I posted a question on how to
insert graphics in a mail merge. Graham Mayor gave me an
excellent solution that works like a charm by using the
INSERTPICTURE field
(http://www.gmayor.com/MAIL_MERGE_GRAPHICS.HTM). Here is
my challenge. In his example, he has a two column
table. When the directory mail merge is run is works
great (name in first cell, signature in second cell then
new record begins on the next row). However, what I want
is a directory based on a 3 column-two row table. In the
first cell I put the insert picture merge field. In the
cell underneath it, I use normal merge fields for a
person's first and last name. In the second cell in the
first row I want the next picture to display and in the
second cell in the second row I want the next person's
name to display. In the third cell, first row I want the
next picture to display and in the third cell, second row
I want the next person's name to display. When I run the
mail merge I want it to continue this process for the
whole database.

When I run the directory mail merge I do not get the
desired results. Is there a way I can set this up so
the next picture/record displays in the cell to the right
instead of on the next row?

Thanks for your help.

You will not be able to use a two row table. You will have to set up the
fields in the cells of a one row table.
Insert the picture field, and then press enter to create a new paragraph in
the cell and then enter the name fields.
Before the picture field in the second and third cells, insert a <<Next
Record>> field.

You can make it look like the picture and the names are in separate cells,
by adding a border above the paragraph that contains the name fields. If
you set the table margins to 0, that border will extend from cell border to
cell border and will not be distinguishable for regular table borders.

The border bit was an after-thought, but it gives the desired effect.
