Grainy pictures and background in Publisher 2003

Hello,
When I use Web Page Preview to view my design, the pictures and background
colors are very grainy. Any suggestions to fix the problem?
I noticed a previous post with a reference to the following site:

But I was denied access to the site, even though I thought I had a
legitimate log-in and was properly signed in.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I can't track down the subject of the former link.
I did not use a master page.
It is possible that my images overlap, and that my background colors
overlap. I'll try to fix that.
I did not optimize my pictures before I inserted them into my document. I
did resize them once they were in the document. How do I optimize the
pictures before insertion?

what was the subject of the link was, I may be able to redirect you.

How did you add the background color? Are you using a master page? If so,
don't...

Are your images overlapping or are you trying to do word wrap? Some things
don't translate to html well from print documents.

Did you optimize and resize your images before you inserted them into the
publication?

Any more detail that you can provide would be helpful.

If you have uploaded the site, please post the URL so we can see it. It
would be much easier to help if we could see the problem. As it is, you
haven't given me much to go on.

Assuming that you are using Pub 2003, you insert or apply a background
color, texture or image to a webpage by Format > Background. If you meant
something else when you use the word "background" please explain.

Sometimes if you overlap design elements, use non-web friendly fonts, etc.,
the different elements will combine into a lower resolution image. As I
said, if you are using word wrap, this is one example. Run the Design
Checker to see if that spots anything.

Ideally after you determine what size of image you need in the Pub document,
you should resize the original image in an image editing program before you
insert it into the Pub doc. There are lots of image editing programs such as
Adobe Photoshop Elements and a freebie would be http://www.irfanview.com/.
Just read under help how to resize images. Once you resize the image, and
insert it into the Pub page, then click the image, Format > Size tab and
make sure the Scale is at 100%.

Alternatively, you might just use the Compress graphics tool in Pub 2003,
and it might help resize the images so they are better quality and smaller

As I suggested, I am left to guess as to what you are seeing and how to fix
it. If nothing here helps, post back after you upload the page, and provide
the URL and we will try again.

and text. I fixed the problem and now the site looks good.
