Grammar check BUGS !

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

After many hours spent to fix this appalling bug, discussing here with experts, I took the opportunity of Snow Leopard to do the following :
- erase / install SL on one machine
- erase / install Leopard only on another machine.
After that, I did NOT import any data apart some files not related with Word.
I thought it solved the problem of Grammarcheck constantly crashing, and for 2 weeks it did.
Now, in a complete clean machine, the BUG is back.
Grammarcheck is impossible. Word has to close session.
Unbelievable…

PS : Again, as said a 100 times, Office is up to date. 12.2.1

No disregard for the issues you may be having, but I can honestly say that
I've been running 2008 on a G5 since the Beta testing & have been running it
on my Intel since the product release & have never incurred a crash or other
issue on either system related to Grammar Checking. Apparently whatever is
causing your problems is not a bug or the issues would be common to
everyone. Unfortunately you haven't identified the issues & it isn't clear
whether it involves the Leopard system, the Snow Leopard system or both.

I'm not sure what discussions you may have had in the past, but those
conversations no longer seem to be available on the server [if you've used
the same identity for posting]. Depending on how far back they go there
could also be major differences in circumstances since that time.

If you'd care to state what the problems are & what other methods you may
have used in an attempt to resolve them I'm certain that someone will be
more than happy to help get them cleared up. The more accurate & detailed
the description, the better.

Bob,
I tried every method folliwing advices from Corentin here and John McGhie.

What I see is that Word creates its own problems (as it always dit, like the infamous "Memory is full, close windows" hilarious bug I've met on every Mac since 1999, on machines where 10 % only of the memory was used and only 2 windows were opened).
But here it's the Grammar Check funny story.
Instantly, when I launch a Grammar check, on any document, I have this message : "Session must be interruped, a problem has occurred". The problem is not occurring with Spellcheck.
So when I did a clean install of Leopard and Snow Leopard in these 2 Intel Macs, aftere erasing all data, Grammar Check suddenly worked fine. Ten days after, bug is back.
I have 60 apps in these machines. None creates any problem whatsoever.
Again, I did NOT make any migration from Time Machine, so Office had a clean install.
Not a bug ?
I have my strong doubts.

Hi Sthan:

Yeah, I remember your earlier fights with this, but as Bob says, I can't see
your posts now.

It seems from user reports that there may be a problem with Spelling and
Grammar corruptions in Word 2008 that only shows up in languages other than
English. But we do not yet have enough information to enable Microsoft to
find the bugs and fix them.

Sorry.

I have the same issue. To MacBooks both have 10.6.2 and both are using
Microsoft education version v 12.2.3 The crashes occur all the time when
doing spelling grammer checks. The reports are flying into Microsoft every
crash. Bothe Macs are using the English language. I have deleted all
preferences and I have removed Microsoft Office and reinstalled it. I have
always bragged to PC users that Office works great on my Macs. This may be
the switch time for me if this isn't fixed soon. I do have Pages and Open
Office. I am typing this on a break after four crashes on my final paper for
a Masters Social Work paper. I have been running Snow Leopard since it came
out and have a lot of other apps installed and no other application has given
me this much frustration.

Hi Joe:

No mention of you doing the one thing that would probably have fixed it :)

Open Word, open your Custom dictionary, make a single-letter change (ad and
remove a letter, to mark the document as "unsaved") then Save.

Then turn your Spelling back on, and it should work.

The issue appears to be that during an upgrade to Snow Leopard, the custom
dictionary gets written into the wrong encoding, as a result of which, Word
can't read it, and crashes when it attempts spelling.

Try that: If it doesn't work, come back and we'll talk you through the rest
of it. A large proportion of these are caused by simply re-saving the
custom dictionary: the rest of the procedure is a bit of a chore.

Cheers
