grammar errors

In the Word options>Proofing>When correcting spelling and grammar in Word:

I want to know what is the difference between "Mark grammar errors as you
type" and "Check grammar with spelling"? When I clear any of the two check
boxes the result is not marking the grammar errors.

Thanks in advance

Mark grammar errors as you type should add wiggly green lines to possible
grammatical anomalies as you type.
Check grammar with spelling displays grammatical errors and their
descriptions when you run a spell check e.g. by pressing F7..
The two buttons are largely independent from one another.
