grammar problem in Word 2003

The following sentence is grammatically correct but Word 2003 insists that it
isn't.

"I hope you and your family are enjoying the holidays."

Word 2003 tries to correct it to "I hope you and your family IS enjoying the
holidays."

This just illustrates the fact that no grammar checker can be a substitute
for a human reader. Who is in charge here, you or the grammar checker?
