I am running Word X for Mac on Mac OS X 10.4.11.
When I run a spelling and grammar check on manuscripts sent to me electronically, I sometimes get the following message: “Text set to (no proofing) was skipped. To find (no proofing) text, click Edit/Replace, Click More, click Format, click Language & choose (no proofing).”
In Options in Spelling and Grammar under “Tools”, language is selected for English (US) and both grammar and spelling are checked. None of those settings have been changed in going from one manuscript to the next, yet the dialog box with the message quoted above occurs with some of the text. The in-program help has not been helpful for this particular problem.
I have three questions:
1. What makes a section of text set to “no proofing”?
2. How can I determine before I work with text whether it is set that way?
3. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Where is the “Edit/Replace” choice found? I could not find it under any of the menus nor in the editing or in the spelling & grammar listings under “Preferences”.
