I have some Powerpoint presentations that I prepared in November.
Now - when I try to edit a chart (by double clicking) I get a message:
"Microsoft can't start the application required to open this object."
If I click the Yes=repair option then the installation of the application
server fails.
I have tried re-registering Graph
("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Graph.exe" /regserver)
and no change.
I have tried re-installing MSOffice 2002 - no change.
I have installed all Office updates - no change.
I can add a new chart to a slide and edit and open it in Graph.
But - when I save the PPT and re-open it the same problem occurs with the
new chart.
I have tried disabling my AV software (AVG) - no change.
I am running Windows Xp Pro - SP2 - with latest updates installed.
I think the the only updates ot my machine in the last month are the
monthly Microsoft updates and defragmenting one of my disc partitions
(not the C: partition).
I use Thunderbird for e-mail and have extensive spam and antivirus
filters running.
I use Firefox for internet (and MSIE only for the Microsoft sites)
so would be extremely surprised if my machine was infected.
Does anyone have any idea
a) How to fix this?
b) What would have caused it?
I have seen a few other reports (dated November 2005) in Google searches
for this problem (with no solutions).
This is a major problem for me as I do a lot of work automating and
preparing PowerPoint presentations.
Any help greatly appreciated.
