Graph Paper Background

Recently, when I receive Word documents by email, a number of them come with what looks like a grey graph paper background to the text.

This is most disturbing, and I wonder if there is anything I can do to to remove this.

Yes, this is the "Visible Grid" option.

Display the Drawing toolbar and drop down the Draw menu. Click the Grid...
Item and uncheck "Display gridlines on screen."

You can look this up in the Word Help. And encourage the other users to do
so too, and turn the damn thing off before they send you documents :)
