Graphic Signature Fuzzy

J

Joseph Misko

I have a graphic signature file that is 600 dpi, same as my printer, that I
have inserted into a doc in Word XP. Whever I print it, the signature
(graphic) is fuzzy. Any idea why. I have tried a few different graphic
formats with no success. It seems like Word is compressing my raw graphic,
which is perfect, and printing an approximate version with disappointing
results. Can this "feature" be turned off or is there a workaround?

Thanks,
Joe

You could try to reset the picture. Once it is inserted
into Word, click to select it. The last button on the
Picture toolbar is called 'Reset Picture'. Click it and
see if there are any changes.

I doubt this is the problem because I presume you have
reinserted and reprinted about a million times anyway.

To make sure that the problem is not with your graphic
image itself, print the graphic from another program
(e.g. ACDC, PhotoShop, etc.). That should tell you if
Word is to blame for the fuzziness.

Word compression is to blame . . . I just don't know how to turn it off!
It's ruining my graphics. I have a few more two-tone graphics and it
doesn't work. I guess you have to use publisher if you really want your
graphics to come out.

Any other ideas?

Is the image inserted at full size? (format picture > size). If not it is no
wonder the image is fuzzy, bitmaps do not scale well. Resize it to the
correct size in your graphics application.

The Reset Picture option resets the size of the picture to 100%, and undoes
any tweaking that the user has done to the picture in Word. Unless you have
installed any Add-ins, I don't think Word is the culprit... Does this
problem occur with all pictures inserted into Word documents? Another thing,
maybe you can fiddle with adding and removing features in the install
wizard. There's something there on graphics.

That's an idea. I usually do install all features. I have had this problem
with Word in 2000 and 2003, and believe I can easily provide a few examples
of graphics that will print just fine anywhere except for Word. I say Word
is the culprit.

Thanks,
Joe
