Graphics become invisible in Word 2003

In Word 2003 the graphics often (not always) become invisible after inserting
them. Once I type any character in the document the graphic will suddenly
appear (but not always). The graphic (photo, clipart, drawing object) is
still there, it just does not show up. The little corner mark “thingiesâ€
still show. I am in Print Layout view. It does not show up in Print Preview
either. It does not matter if I use Picture Placeholders as even Picture
Placeholders do not show up. The Drawing Objects box was already checked, but
I unchecked and rechecked just to see if that might help and it did not. It
is running on a Dell Pentium 4 @ 3.2 GHz with 1 MB of ram.

thanks Graham..reducing hardware acceleration did the trick
