Graphics don't display in MS Office Applications.

When I insert graphics or simply open up an MS Office application that
contains graphics of any kind, they will not be displayed. In PPT, they
graphics aren't displayed in the edit area but can be viewed from the
thumbnail column to the left. They also will display when PPT is in
presentation mode. MS word will not display graphics in edit mode but will
display them in print preview mode. I have an ATI Radeon 300 graphics card
in my Inspiron 6000 laptop & 2 GB of DDR2 533mhz RAM so I doubt it is a
resource problem. I have tried lowering the hardware acceleration on the
graphics with no results. Virus and Spyware scans come up with nothing.
Please help.
