Graphics from Windows Word to Word Mac X

If Word is a truly functional cross platform app. then why do only
half the graphic images from my client who works in Windows Word
display when I open them in Mac Word v. X? A box with an "X" is all I
get.

I have also tried Mac Word 98 and Mac Office V. 4.2.1 (1996) and even
on the PC with Windows Microsoft Word 97.

I took the Scanner Camera add-on from my Word folder like someone
suggested back in 2004 here.

Does this mean that between 2004 and 2007, still no fix for Mac Word
v.X so that it will reveal th embedded graphics from the Windows
people?

My client has to make them into PDFs for me to see the graphics and
then I have to work with the PDF and type my input into the Word docs
with the X's. Why?

Hi Sharon:

Why? In this case, because your client is forgetting to put the pictures
into the document! The "Red X" means "Linked graphics file not found",
which means that Word expected the picture to be in the document, but it
isn't.

The other issue is that Word X is built around QuickDraw and QuickTime.
Word 2004 uses the new mechanism.

There never will be a "fix" for a previous product that adds new
functionality: in this case, the ability to display graphics types that the
original product couldn't. No software company does that. Fixes only "fix"
the original function if it was broken. They should never, ever, add new
functions. Most software vendors like to call them "Updates" because that
makes it sound as though they didn't make a mistake in the first place. But
they're not updates, they're patches and they don't add functions. When
they do add functions, they call it a new version and charge us for it :)

I suggest you grab Word 2008 when it comes out.

But please remember that "Object Embedding" is very common in Windows. This
enables almost any program to insert its native file type into a Word
document. On the PC, the display of that object is performed by the
application that created it, not Word. Word simple draws a "window" in the
document into which the other application displays.

So if the Windows user has created pictures in something that does not exist
on your computer, whether it be Windows or Mac, you still won't see it. You
won't get a Red X, you will get an error message saying that Word can't find
an OLE Server for that file type. But sadly, you won't be able to solve the
problem without purchasing the other application :)

Hope this helps
