Graphics not aligned in Web Page Preview of Publisher 2003

Using the Web Page Preview function in Publisher 2003 I find that text boxes
and graphics are not aligned in the same way. I have got to a point where all
text boxes and images added on a particular page appear in the Wb Page
Preview below the original layout.

What am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem what you see is not what you get. I haven't found a
way to solve this problem yet.

So far I've found removing some HTML code which inserts a google search bar
in my web page has rectified the problem. Not sure why!!! But hopefully this
helps!

I would guess that both of you are finding that the design objects on your
page shift around in web page preview because you are either overlapping
some design objects that forces the shift or using some other print
formatting technique that cannot be converted to html. In the case of the
Google code fragment, it may be that you did not make the code fragment box
big enough on the Publisher page to accommodate the size of the toolbar that
is imported.

In general you can get some shifting if you try to use some print formatting
techniques that Publisher can't convert to html. You can do some things in a
print document that will not work in a web document. One example is trying
to wrap text around an image. Works fine in print, but will push or shift
the image and text box in a web preview. If you have design objects that are
shifting, then move those objects around, or even remove them while testing
until you find what is impacting what, and then change your design around
the limitation.

If you want to post a URL of the problem pages and detail the problem you
are having, we will take a look.

Hi,

I am using the buttons on Publisher to build my webpage with no knowledge
of HTML and I am having the same problem.
Please send me tips on how to allign object and text.

I will explain better: I've tried in every possible way to build a webform
inserting form controls into the text, but it simply would't work, the form
controls would not move along with the text and wouldnt allign. I have
exhausted
every topic in MS Office help with no success. Finally I managed to insert 2
different text boxes, one with the form fields and another with the text, and
I managed to allign them. It looks perfect on the screen, but when I preview
it, it's all messed up.
PLEASE HELP ME! I've spent a whole day in this form...

Perhaps if you are inserting the form controls into a text box, then try to
insert the form controls and accompanying text boxes into an empty space on
your page.

Alternatively insert a predesigned form. From Publisher Help'

Create a pre-designed Web form
On the Objects toolbar, click Design Gallery Object .
Under Categories, click Reply Forms.
Under Reply Forms, choose a form.
Click Insert Object.
Double-click each control and select the options you want.

You could ungroup the predesign form and delete the portions you don't want.

Also from Publisher Help:

Create form controls inline:
If you want visitors to your Web site to be able to use the TAB key to move
through and select the form controls on your Web site, you can create the
form controls inline. Form controls are available only if you are working on
a Web publication.
Insert a text box in the location where you want to add form controls.
How?
On the Objects toolbar, click Text box .
In your publication, point to where you want one corner of the text to
appear, and then drag diagonally until you have the text box size you want.
Click in the text box to get a cursor.
On the Objects toolbar, click Form Control , and then click the form control
that you want.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have inserted all of the form controls that
you want.
You can insert form controls horizontally on the same line, or you can press
ENTER after inserting each form control to arrange the form controls
vertically.
Note To test your form controls, click Web Page Preview on the File menu.
You should be able to use the TAB key to move through the form controls in
the order in which they were inserted. Press the arrow keys to move through
groups of option buttons.

You might also just go to Help, type the word "forms" and read through the
other help articles about forms, if what I have copied and pasted here don't
solve your problems.

Then before you post back about the form not working on your website, read
this article: Publisher web publication forms 101 :
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/2006/01/07/80564.aspx

And the article about HTTP uploading protocol here:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/category/1921.aspx

Good luck.

Inserting them into an empty space worked well. I tried the predesigned form,
but adapting it would be a lot of work, but at least the form showed me a
good way of doing it: inserting form fields into empty space and creating
individual text boxes next to each of them. I've alligned them using a grid
line as guide, works well except for the option buttons, which tend to slide
downwards a bit when turned into a web page.

Thank you for your help!

You are welcome. You might try grouping all the form controls. That might
help keep them to together. Just draw a line around all of them to select
them all, and then click the little group icon at the bottom....or go to
Arrange > Group.
