graphics tablet problems

Ok, Ive Just got an Aiptek hyperpen 8000u pro.

Having followed the installation instructions, it works great. I can move
around using it as a mouse to click things and I can open paint and do little
drawings.

But heres the problem, when i open onenote and select a pen, it all goes
wrong! The curser still moves correctly, but clicking down to ink anything
causes the curser to jump up to the top left corner and bring up a little
menu. Once this has happened the curser keeps jumping to the top left on
every click, even when the program has been closed. I reboot gets it back to
normal again.

Id like to see if anyone can think of why this might be happening? Theres
seems to be some sort of incompatibility with ms ink, and this tablet.

Here are some facts to help understand whats going on:
*the tablet works FINE until I try to use ink in onenote OR msn messenger
*reinstalling the drivers DOES NOT help
*rebooting makes the tablet function again until I try to use ink again
*Downloading the latest drivers does not help

In asking for help with this, id respectfully ask people not to give throw
away answers which arnt helpful, such as: 'get new drivers' or 'buy a tablet
pc'.

It seems from what ive tried, theres something about what happens when you
try and use 'ink' which is upsetting things, so could anybody shed some light
on what happens when you start to use ink which is different to doing other
things? I mean, it works fine in things like paint, becuase its just dragging
the brush around like you would with a mouse, Id assumed that there would be
no problem in onenote as i can draw in onenote with a mouse.

One last thing - yes I know you cant recognise handwriting if you do it with
an external tablet, but at the moment I cant draw anything with the tablet in
onenote!

Thanks in advance!

Do you consider "Have you called Aiptek support?" a throw-away answer? :)

Its a decent enough suggestion. But the thing is, the tablet works as a
pointer perfectly, until I try and use microsoft digital ink? I dont know
whats going on there. I guess Aiptek would say 'well it points and clicks at
everything else? how is it our fault'. Im not saying its micrsofts fault by
the way, im just trying to understand what (if anything) is different about
clicking my pen down when the ink tool is selected, to doing it any other
time?

Thanks for the prompt reply

Digital Ink is only fully supported in OneNote on Tablet PCs using the
digitized hardware on them. What you're basically doing is creating a
graphic. Your basic input device with the writing pad is just like that of
using a mouse. In the case of one of the Office 2003 applications, like
Word for instance, a different handwriting engine is used.

As is so often the way with illogical problems, ive found an illogical
solution!

I went to a shop and bought a Trust tablet of the same size to see if the
problem was specific to the aiptek, knowing I could easily return it to the
store if it didnt work. When I got it out the box though, and looked at the
manual, I could see it was an Aiptek one with different stickers, But I
thought id load it up none the less. When I did so I gave it a try and it
worked in onenote! So then i plugged the original tablet back in running on
the 'Trust' software (which is almost identicle to the software for the
original) and it still works! So now I can use my Aiptek tablet running on
Aiptek software branded for Trust and its all working fine!

Thanks for the input on trying to solve this for me. maybe the lesson here
is when your computer does something it shouldnt, think of something that
shouldnt make a difference and do that!

I have the exact same problem you describe with a Tevion branded graphics
tablet. I tried downloading the Trust drivers you had success with and
although they work with the tablet Onenote still exhibits the same problem. I
would be grateful if anyone else has a possible solution to this problem.
