Using Mac Office '06 PowerPoint, when I transfer my presentation to PPT on Windows I get a tiny message that says something about quicktime and decompression on some graphics. What to do to get those graphics to show? I tried running it through i'Work's Keynote and exporting it back to ppt but no improvement. Any ideas?

Nothing you can do on the Mac other than replace the "graphics" with
others... the problem is on the Windows box.

Exactly as the message describes, the PC needs to be equipped with a copy of
Apple's QuickTime Player & Picture Viewer which is available as a free
download here:

Unless things have changed fairly recently, installing QT on the PC won't help
with QT-compressed graphics.

Hi,

Versions of Office for Windows prior to Office 2010 do not understand
QuickTime. It's a major failing that seems to be rectified in Office for
Windows version 2010.

Your choices are to re-insert the content in something that old versions
of PowerPoint for Windows understands (wmv, jpeg), or get your Windows
friends to upgrade to Office 2010 and try again. Given that Office 2010
is not available widely on Windows yet, the first option is probably the
best bet.

To add to what everyone else said, what you want to do is make sure that you
insert all graphics in your PowerPoint by using Insert > Picture > From
File, rather than dragging or copying/pasting the graphics. Any that you
have already inserted the "wrong" way should be deleted and re-inserted.

Thanks all. Fortunately not all were copy/paste and work. I was told there is a patch available from MS? Urban myth?

Hi,

Use the Help menu and choose Check for Updates to make sure you have all
the current patches installed. Your Windows friends should also have
their copies updated.

Just the same, support for QuickTime in current versions of PowerPoint
for Windows is non-existent, so QuickTime content won't play there
unless they upgrade to Office 2010.

Yeah, my bad - I was thinking of something else & didn't test it first since
I didn't have the QT installed in my VM at the time. Crossed wires again :-}

Easy fix, just bumped into that this week, when a user had used copy
and paste or drag & drop to insert images from her desktop or the
internet in ppt mac 2004.
In ppt 2003 on the pc it just showed the dreaded QT message but I was
able to fix it in no time by just reopening the file in ppt 2008 Mac
and resaving it in ppt 97-2003. It now works fine in ppt 2003 on xp. I
know it sounds to good to be true but it did work ;-)

To all, again a continuing Thanks!

Ah, but to Mickael: Oh boy, if your fix works I'll build a small shrine to you in my backyard and my children will pray for your well-being! Will save me tons of time. You should feel the karma soon.

Gotta go find the kids.

That's very good to know. I added your trick to the FAQ here:

QuickTime and a TIFF (or JPEG) decompressor are needed to see this picture

Thanks!
