"Gray" excel charts out w/- no Graphics

Hello all:

I am seeing issues with excel-XP charts "graying i..e no graphichs display" once I insert any simple chart into any sheet, and then click outside the boundary. If I click inside the chart boundary, the chart shows up "un-greyed" with the appropriate grapics as expected.

Greying resumes again once the chart is "un-selected" by clicking outside its boundary.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated... Is this perhaps a symptom of a formatting limitation ? The app is about 20 Mb in size..

Choose Tools>Options, and on the View tab, under Objects,
select 'Show All'
