grayed out email option

how do I turn this option on and turn off the fax option? I would like to be
able to email a document from the email option and I can't for some reason.
The email option is grayed out and can't email from the document. Please help
me to turn on the email option. Thanks in advance.

Not the only factor - Windows Mail for example doesn't use Simple MAPI and
even if it is set as default email client, the OP still won't be able to
email from within Office.
Thunderbird on the other hand DOES use Simple MAPI and thus with TBird set
as default, emails can be sent from within Office...
