Grayed out spell check

Hello,

My spelling section of the spelling and grammer section of the preferences
is grayed out.

Why?

How to I enable the spelling?

I don¹t know of any changes or settings that I would have changed (I don¹t
change any) that would have made this grayed out.

Help.

What version of Word?

I believe this is due to a corrupted preferences file. Test your prefs as
instructed here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/DamagedPrefs.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

I'd appreciate confirmation if this is right.

No go.

I deleted the ones listed on that page and then all of them and nothings
still.

I am using the latest update to 2004.

What language is the text formatted in? Check via Tools | Language--the
highlighted language is the one in effect.
