Gremlins in my keyboard

J

jatun

I recently upgraded to Word 2004 for Macs. Everything was fine until
today. Now when I type an apostrophe I get è. When I type a question
mark or quotation marks I get É.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it (in simple
language if possible!)

Many thanks.

Does this affect Word only, or does it happen in other applications as well?
My guess is that you've accidentally changed your keyboard layout. Go to
System Preferences, International, and select the Input Menu tab. In that
list, make sure the appropriate language setting for your keyboard is
checked, and uncheck all those that do not apply. If "Show input menu in
menu bar" is selected (same window, at the bottom), you should see the
corresponding flag close to the clock in the upper right corner of the menu
bar. If that doesn't solve your problem, post back and give more details,
such as the version of Mac OS X you're using.

Hi Jane,

You can also check in Tools | AutoCorrect if there is an autocorrect entry
to replace apostrophe with è.
