Greyed out contacts after restore

I had to rebuild a hard drive after a crash and restored an old backup for
BCM. Now I can see all the accounts but the contact details within each
account is greyed. I have ried another backup/restore cycle and tried a
reinstall of BCM to no avail. Any ideas please?

I have never heard of this before, but have some ideas.

(1) After restoring from backup media, some files are read-only.
(2) Outlook lost its license information, and is running in read-only
mode - happens after the Office 2007 trial period expires.

Thanks for your thoughts. The product is registered and activated and the
database file does not appear to be read only as I can add to it. However
when I add an account and contacts they appear greyed out as well.
