greyish box appears when printing graphic elements

tsk

I am creating a letterhead for a client in Word. The graphical elements have
been created in Adobe Illustrator at print resolution. I have exported the
graphic in a number of file formats such as tiff, bmp, png, jpg. I place the
image in a header and have used the watermark and background options but when
I print the document from Word 2003 a greyish box appears around with the
graphic, between the anchor points. I am designing on Mac but printing on a
PC. What file format shoul I be using to eliminate the colour where is should
be transparent?

Hi Tsk,

Office doesn't always get aloong with Adobe Illustrator created items and cross platform (mac/windows) sometimes also complicates
things. However, you may also have hit a Word 2003 bug or a printer specific issue. This hotfix is for a black and white image,
but may be a greyscale issue as well.

Hi Bob,

This looks very familiar (my post below... 3/10/2006). I read the hotfix,
but it looks like it isn't easily accessible/downloadable...although, I am
using Office XP (2002), not 2003.

I have Office Pro 2003 here, just haven't installed it, yet. Do you have a
direct download link for the hotfix you mentioned (913164)?

Thanks.

Hi Shawn,

For Office hotfixes generally you have to make the phonecall to have them set it up as a one time download for you. There's no
support charge for the call when it's only for a hotfix.

It appears that it's a GDIplus.dll issue. That could be available for Office XP as well as well as part of a printer driver change.
