gridlines over pictures

Erica

Hi

I'm trying to have the gridlines put over the picture in excel. This is a
feature to make a picture quickly into an embroidery design without
spending heaps on a special program.
I have tried making the background transparent but on printing it just
isn't showing the gridlines

Thanks
Erica

Hi Erica,

What a clever idea! You're in luck.

There's a new feature in Excel 2004 that might do the trick for you.

In order for you to see what you are doing, be sure Excel is in Page
Layout view (View>Page Layout or click the Page Layout button).

In cell A1 put a single quote.
Use View>Header and Footer
Click to customize the header then click the Insert Picture button, then
navigate to the picture you want to use. Then close the Header & Footer
dialog box.

Click the diamond near the upper left portion of the spreadsheet. That
selects all the cells. While that selection is on, use Format>Column
Width and put in a small number, like maybe .2 or something.

Copy the single quote to the range of cells that cover the picture you
want to use.

You can change the gridlines to white or some other color by keeping
them all selected and using Format>Cells. It's really hard to see white
lines in that dialog box if you choose white, but it will work anyway.

The ability to put a picture into the header is new in Excel 2004. In
older versions you can put a picture in the background, but the picture
gets tiled.
