Groove 2007 and WIndows 7 64-bit - files problems

X

xsvtoys

We have one user who recently installed Groove 2007 onto Windows 7 64-bit.
The invitations to the workspaces went as expected, and everything appeared
to be sent. The workspaces appeared on the Win 7 client end, but without any
Files tool. Calendar and Welcome work as expected. But for some reason Files
is completely missing.

Is anyone successfully running with Win 7 64-bit?

Hi there,

If you are using Groove File Sharing Spaces, they will not work on 64 bit,
but regular Groove file tools should work. Can they create a files tool in
the space and add data? Do other space members see the data? Does this
happen with all spaces that the users receives or just the one?

Gregg

X

xsvtoys

Thanks Gregg.

- It is not File Sharing, we are aware of that limitation. It is a normal
workspace with the files tool.

- Other members see the data OK. Some are on Vista, some are on XP (all
32-bit). This is the only Win 7 user for now.

- It happens with all the workspaces the Win 7 user has (4 of them).

- I don't know if he can create a Files tool and add data, I will check and
report back.

X

xsvtoys

And here is some more information:

- He can create a Files tool and upload files to it. It appears to me
normally, and if I delete a file there it acts normally, deleting it on his
end.

- He does not see the Files tool at all in any of the workspaces, in other
words not only are the files not there, but neither is the tab. (Again, the
Calendar tool and the Welcome tool appear to act normally).

- When checking workspaces properties his workspaces all show to be 2 or 3
MB in size whereas with the files they should be anywhere between 200 MB and
700 MB. So obviously the files are just not there.

- If I reinvite him to a workspace while we are both connected, the entire
process appears normal. I invited him to a workspace with 197 MB. On my end
it indicated a countdown from 197 MB to zero over the course of 20 minutes or
so which is typical. On his end, there was a corresponding percentage
countdown that took about the same amount of time. Yet, when it was all done,
again, no files!!

Hi,

OK, the next step is to see if this is a problem with the account or with
the installation itself. If you log out of the user’s account and create a
new account, do you see this same problem with the new account?

Gregg

xsvtoys

Gregg, we will give this a try and report back. Have you (or anyone there)
actually tried to run this with Groove 2007 and Windows 7 64-bit to see if it
will work, or if the problem reproduces? I have found others on the internet
who describe the exact same problem, including the other post here in the
Groove Synchronization forum. It would be interesting to know if anyone has
achieved success with the Files tool and Win7-64. This would tell us whether
there is something we need to sort out on our installation versus an inherent
issue with this OS.

Thank you, Jim

Gregg, we did as you described below. Logged out, created a new account, I
invited that account, it appeared to download as usual. But, again no File
tool is visible. So we are still stuck at the same point. - Jim

Jim,

At this point you might want to open up a ticket with Groove Support. This
is more than likely a download problem in getting the space to download and
appear correctly. The files tool does work in Standard Groove Spaces
regardless of OS, so there is a deeper problem that needs to be examined.

So now we have to pay $99 to get help for this newly-purchased Groove
software which doesn't work with Microsoft's own Win 7 64 bit OS which is
also newly-purchased. Really nice way to help out customers, thanks a lot.

Well, I would like to know, is there ANYONE OUT THERE who can report that
they can indeed successfully use the files tool with Win 7 64 bit???? Anyone?

So smwall, does your new laptop have 64 bit Win 7 on it then? And are you
having the same problem where you cannot access Files? Please confirm! It
would be good to hear from another user that they have the same problem. I
suspect it is an inherent problem with Groove.

M

Martin King-Turner

I am experiencing exactly the same problem on a 32 bit Windows Vista machine with Groove 2007. After accepting invitations, the spaces install but with no file tool visible. This happens to every space we try to install on the machine - we've tried dozens, some big and some very small (e.g. 1 file in the file tool).

After downloading the space, the user can create a NEW file tool in the space and add/delete files from it OK. The new file tool synchronises with existing users of the space, but they see it as a second file tool.

The one thing we have noticed is an error message that appears very briefly whilst the space is being downloaded. The error refers to a problem with the ?user space already mapped?. Anyone know what that means?

Well unfortunately I have another user who has just switched to Win 7 64 bit,
and he has the same problem - no files tool in Groove 2007. Since we now have
2 users with the same issue and I have not heard direct evidence of anyone
who is able to see the files tool with Win 7 64 bit, the only logical
conclusion is that it simply does not work. While I did get some help from
some Microsoft-connected people here, which I appreciated, it didn't resolve
anything and basically the issue continues to be ignored. This is a sad
situation, really.

Apparently all I can do now is [hope] that this gets resolved in the
upcoming new version of Groove.

xsvtoys,

I've been having similar issues as you described. Although mine appears to be intermittent.

However, my issues started occurring during my use of Vista 64bit. I then upgraded to Windows 7, in the hope that a fresh install would clear up the problem - no such luck.

I do however, have one or two workspaces that seem to sync correctly, but there's no rhyme or reason for which do and do not sync.

I even went as far as getting the beta release of Office 2010, to see whether the issue persists in the new version... it does.

By any chance did you get a solution to this issue? I'm loathed to request support from MS for a product that until 6 months ago worked perfectly - especially when they charge ?199 + VAT!

I am running Windows 7 professional 64 bit I've created a new Standard
workspace (File Sharing) is greyed out. I have files and discussions
showing by default. I'm a litte confused here as to what I should and
should not be seeing.

We have a small number of users trying Groove out. I can see in my
files tool when a user has udated it.

What exactly is the difference with standard & file-sharing?

Thanks

Robyn
