Can someone please point me to a document or web page that clearly describes
the NEW or DIFFERENT features of Groove 2007 in comparison to Groove 3.1?

-thx

OK Thank you, I also eventually found a Groove 2007 user's guide online that
discussed the differences as well. Interestingly, pretty much all of the
differences involve the removal of features rather than any new featres. This
itself doesn't matter much to me because we don't use those features that
were removed.

However, I am unable to identify any significant difference in terms of a
new or improved feature between 3.1 and 2007 that would provide incentive to
upgrade. There were quite a few "wish list" suggestions on the previous
Groove forums that have never been implemented. Are there any plans for
another upgrade/update to Groove sometime in the future? - Jim

A very significant difference is in the Groove and SharePoint integration.
Grv3.1 had 'Groove Mobile Workspace' whereas this has now been pruned to a
SharePoint Files tool. More on the new Groove and SharePoint integration in

Sounds good, if someone is using Sharepoint. We don't use it, in fact, we are
a small company and don't use any server technology at all. This is one of
the major reasons we originally went to Groove to begin with, since it allows
data sharing among multiple users without the need for a server.

Here is where I stand - as the administrator, I would prefer to be on the
latest version of the platform, that is, Groove 2007. However, prior to
updating all of our users, management (who holds the budget) wants to know
the specific benefits for spending the money and doing the upgrade. So far, I
cannot identify any signifcant feature difference that would apply to us. So
for now, we will continue on V 3.1, which is working well for us.

I am glad to see that there is some ongoing action in these forums.

in your case, Groove is the perfect tool (non-server small shop), especially,
if you have mobile users.
If you plan to expand your staff then keep in mind that Grv 3.1 is at its
end of its life-cycle - no new licenses are available from MSFT and upgrading
to Groove 2007 is (obviously) encouraged. There may be a possibility of
acquiring Grv 3.1 licenses from other Groove VARs but that too may be limited.

I've got basically the same situation/setup as you - xsvtoys - (we're 12
people in 7 locations with no server and love the P2P aspects of groove) -
however, I've heard that the actual infrastructure that supports the "old"
hosted servcies (3.1) remains at least until O14 (the next major release of
Office) ships. So you're 3.1 will basically die when MS turns off the "old"
relays. People say O14 ship date is first half of 2009, so you have 18
months or so to migrate. I'll be migrating before the end of 2008...either
to Groove 2007...or something else...so tell the people with the money to
plan on coughing some up next year.
