Groove Created Multiple Desktops and Documents Folders

Groove 2007 Vista

New to Groove. About the third day found desktop clean, then several
desktops and document folders in the C:folder list

Many programs would no longer work because data files could not be found.

After much research I'm being told this was caused by groove not being able
to sync and creating new folders?

Anyway- Need help restoring original desktop and documents
folders/relationships.

Thanks!

If I understand your problem coirrectly this can be solvd, from the Groove
side, by having other members of foler shares or Workspaces invite you back
into the above

Groove will not arbitrarily create folders. I am not sure what you are
referring to by "desktops". Groove stores standard workspaces in a very
specific folder. If you have File Sharing spaces, Groove allows you create
those folders in a location of your choice once you access the space for the
first time. These locations must be local and not a network share or DFS.

If Groove is unable to synch it does not create folders. Do these folders
appear to be related to any existing spaces?

It sounds like you have bigger issues. Have you tried a system restore?

I restored to 2 days earlier. Still have a desktop at the top of the
explorer tree plus one in user and a third in a folder called Steves stuff.

Uninstalled groove. Deleted the two extra desktops. Lost much of my data,
then restored and combined from the delete bin.

Still a mess. I would love to be able to have multiple desktops and keep
personal stuff on one and work stuff on the other.

Have no idea how this happened, but someone suggested it was related to
some of the file permissions related to groove.

It almost destroyed my business when I could not find a number of files that
were lost on the desktop with broken links.

Any insight into what is going on appreciated so I can avoid in future.

Bob -

This does not sound like a Groove issue, though Groove may be making the
underlying problem show up. I'd check your hard drive for errors, and do a
backup of your important data.

I not sure what is going on or what happened but it sounds like you may have
been using File sharing spaces. If so, for future reference you should create
a File Sharing space out of any of the primary folders such as Desktop or My
Documents or any network shares.
You can create and maintain folders in the My Documents or Desktop folders
but not on a network share.

Thank you Michael-

That is exactly what happened.

My problem is that I did/do not know what a file sharing space is.

I thought I had a folder on my desktop.

Not sure how documents folder or desktop got shared in all of this.

It sure was scary and not sure what I'm supose to be avoiding.

Any links where I can read more? Just went through the groove video.

Thanks for any help.
