Groove Support for CAD Files!

Bill D.

The documentation states that Groove 2007 wil handle Syncronization of large
fil files such as CAD. Is there any Proof of this? Hwo large of a CAD file
will Groove handle?

Hi Bill

There is an upper limit of 2 gigabytes on a shared space, but for values
under that, you're good to go, though I'd suggest you prove it to yourself
first.

Do an experiment. Create a space with two members. Put a 100mb file in it,
then have one member edit the file then copy it back into the space and see
how much traffic it generates.

Should be 100mb (minus some for compression) when the file is added, then a
few megs every time you edit the file.

If it works, add a couple more members and some bigger files, until you're
working with more people and bigger files than you do in real life.

Tell us what happens!

Hi Bill & Mark,
Are you finding Groove is giving you alot of coalition files?
We are using Groove 2007 to share a 'Shared Folder Workspace' of CAD files
(AutoCAD).
We are now finding Groove is saving a coaliton copy for EVERY save of EVERY
user.
The directory now looks like...
plan.dwg
plan.dwg(Chris Copy)
plan.dwg(Chris Copy)(Chris Copy)
plan.dwg(Mark Copy)
plan.dwg(Mark Copy)(Mark Copy)

.... You get the idea. A mess. We are never in the same file at the same time.

Is there something we can do to stop this?
Is it a setting in AutoCAD? Is there a setting in Groove?
Or is sharing & editing CAD files in Groove simply not advisable?

Thanks,
CM

Hi Bill,
Are you having any luck with Groove & CAD?
We are finding that Shared Folders will not Sync ANY files - it just makes duplicates on every save - a total mess.
The File Tool is better - but Xrefs cannot be found.

This basically makes Groove useless for CAD.

Are you finding any hope?

Thanks
CM
