Group Dilema

N

Neil

Is there a way for individuals in my e-mail group to assign themselves to an
e-mail and remove the others from the group's visibility?

We have requests coming to our department all day and I (the new supervisor)
can not see if things are being worked and completed. I would like my staff
to be able to "check out" these e-mails and reply back when completed.

I would like to know who is working it and be able to follow up.

Thanks for any feedback.

What do you mean by "my e-mail group"? What version of OUtlook are you using? With what mail server?

By "my" I mean I control the members. Microsoft Exchange Server. Office
2003. Windows XP Pro.

Thanks.

I was more interested in what you mean by "group," since Outlook has no concept by that name.

Sorry, this is new to me. Distribution list?

An Exchange GAL distribution list or an Outlook personal distribution list?

Where are the messages you are referring to?

In any case, Outlook has no built-in concept of assigning a person to an email message as you would a task.

Thanks, that answered my question.

Do you know of an application that would allow us to do this? Its really
simple. People from our company have a DL that they choose to send item data
maintenance to. They select "Item Maintenance" from their Global DL. All of
the members of that DL receive it. One the Members of "Item Maintenance"
then picks it up and works it. Then reply back that it is done. Not an
efficient way to handle task assignments. 1.) no one can see that someone
from "Item Maintenance" is working the task, 2.) if no one decides to work it
it does not get done, and 3.) I can not monitor the work.

Any thoughts on how this might be accomplished? Maybe its another
application that I can use?

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Some organizations use a public folder or a separate mailbox for this. A custom form would provide the opportunity to write more functionality into the process.
