Group items on page

I know MS is aware of the problem. When using ON with a tablet it is a major
problem.
Typically when doing research one insert different type of documents then
use ink annotations.

I have been caught several time when the comments or highlight have shifted
and make no sense anymore.

We could have a group/ungroup command or a command to freeze the page at a
certain stage (Ie: group all) but still be able to add on top of it.

Thanks

Hi Jim,

I posted a related query regarding being able to stop ON from moving my text
containers down to make space for added text. I can effectively fix pictures
only by setting them as a background, but the text boxes don't seem to
respond in this way. In terms of a useful note taking application, the
ability to lock previous containers would be a great advantage. I couldn't
find a group command either and the call-out option would be an excellent
addition, especially if it could be anchored to the text/picture etc (I voted
for your suggestion btw). An as for the extra ON unfiled copies, I found this
deeply annoying and pointless too (it seems more like a bug than design)

The problem is not limited to tablets; I have had stuff moved way to
the bottom of the page (almost lost beyond extra white space) on my
desktop.

Exactly.
But it most often appears if one is making handwritten comments in
PowerPoint slides or documents (PDFs).
In addition to a group capability, some method of annotating the
objects on a page, with a callout arrow/line making the annotation
stick with the item being annotated, would be a huge addition. (Or
perhaps I have just not figured out how to get drawing objects to
retain their relative positions; if anyone knows how, please respond.

The answer is as sad as it is simple:
There are no such features in ON (and the situation will most probably
be unchanged in the upcoming 2010 version) {siiiigh}.

One has to use workarounds.
Some just use screen clippings of annotated pages and re-import them
into ON.

Others use the fantastic screen-capture and image annotating SnagIt [1]
(which really has to offer very much) and import the annotated images. I
often work this way.

And if it's PDF I very often use the great PDFAnnotator [2] to comment
/annotate the originals which I then print to ON, combined with a link
to the original for future manipulation.

As said, it's really sad that ON which would be the ideal instrument for
annotating does not provide the necessary features {siiiigh}.
Other than that (and some foolishness with Unfiled Notes opening
extranious copies of OneNote) I am quite pleased with the product.
Very useful!

Which problems might you have in so far??
I can not see ay "foolishness" with "unfiled notes".
Would you pls explain this a little bit (in a new thread)??

Rainald

Unfortunately the necessary instruments for "grouping" objects and
fixing the positions of containers are missing in ON.
And - sad enough - your voting will not be of any influence for the
foreseeable future. ON2010 (Office 14) has not been improved in so far
and we will have to wait for one mire version (Office 14).

Pls also see my reply to Jim Russell.

I do not see what you are complaining in so far.
Could be pls explain your problem in a new thread?

TIA
Rainald
