Group Permissions

Dear all:

My question is how I can configure the group permissions to let each
Engineer to see only his create projects and assign tasks to his team members
and each Senior Engineer only see his group projects.

Group A:
Senior Engineer A
Engineer A1
Engineer A2
Team members A

Group B:
Senior Engineer B
Engineer B1
Engineer B2
Team members B

From your question, I am assuming that your Senior Engineers will NOT use
Microsoft Project Professional, and will view project data ONLY in PWA. If
this is an incorrect assumption, please let me know.

To determine which resources each Engineer can see, you will need to perform
the steps detailed in the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/UseRBStoControlAccessToResources.htm

Based on your scenario, you will need to place Team Members at the lowest
level of the RBS in the Enterprise Resource Pool, place Engineers one level
above their own resources, and place Senior Engineers one level above their
respective Engineers.

To allow Engineers to see only their own projects, add them to only the
Project Managers group. Assuming you have not altered this Group's default
permissions, the system will allow each Engineer to see only his/her own
projects.

To allow Senior Engineers to see the projects managed by their Engineers,
you should first create a custom Category called My Engineering Projects.
In this custom Category, navigate to the Projects section and select only
the "Allow users in this category to view all projects managed by resources
that they manage." In the Projects section, select at least one detailed
Project view, and in the Project Center section, select at least one Project
Center view. Then click the Save Changes button.

Next, you will need to create a new custom Group called Senior Engineers.
To this group, add those people who function as Senior Engineers in your
organization and make sure they are not members of any other Group. In the
Categories section, add only the My Engineering Projects category to the
list on the right. In the Permissions grid, set only the following
permissions to Allow:

See Projects in Project Center
See Projects in Project Views
View Risks, Issues, and Documents

In the Global Permissions grid at the bottom of the page, set the
permissions using the Executives template. Hope this helps.
