Group Total Calculation

I have a report that lists phone numbers and their monthly total cost in the
Detail window. The total monthly cost is calculated from the sum of several
fields in each record for that phone number. (this field is called Total)

I want the report to sum costs associated with each of the phone numbers. I
tried =sum(Total) in the report footer, but that did not work. Any ideas?

check to see if the field Total has a format of Currency
or some other numeric format. and that it is on each
detail line.

The total for each line IS on the detail line and it is formatted for
currency.

Do you have a "field" named Total or a "text box" named Total. You can't sum
a text box (or other control). You can sum fields in either Group or Report
footers or headers. You can also sum the control source of a text box ie:
=Sum([Qty] * [UnitPrice] - [Discount] + [Shipping])
