Grouping and totalling in Resource Usage view or a report

I have a Resource Usage view with two columns of interest: a "Resource
Name" column that contains resources and assignments, and a "Text1"
column that contains a project ID that was assigned in the Task Usage
view.

I would prefer to modify the view, or at worst make a report, that
allows me to show totals for each project for a resource. For example,
if a resource has 50 assignments in each of 2 projects, the default
Resource Usage view shows 100 rows for that resource, along with the
associated hours in weekly buckets. I would like to see only two rows
for that resource, one per project, with weekly hours for each
assignment in the project rolled up into a total for that project. I
might also want to add column "Text2" for project phase, and find a
view or report that shows subtotals by phase and by project, but at a
minimum I need a rollup by project. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

bzoller,
You didn't mention how the "projects" are identified. For example, are
you using a master file with inserted subprojects? Or are you simply
identifying each project with a spare field (you do mention a project
ID)? Or perhaps are you using a resource pool and using the resource
usage view in the pool file?

Just for reference you might want to go to our MVP website at:
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm, and take a look at FAQ 51 - Data
Types: Task, Resource and Assignment. I find that many users get a
little confused about spare fields in combination views (i.e. Resource
and Task Usage).

Assuming your are using the spare assignment text field to identify the
projects, here is how to set up the Resource Usage view
1. Set the timescale for weeks
2. Go to Project/Group By/Customize Group by
3. Use the following setup
Group By Name Resource Ascending
Then By Text1 Assignment Ascending
Note: to allow you to set Text1 as as assignment, check the Group
assignments, not resources box.
4. If you want, collapse the assignment group summary lines so the
individual assignments don't show.

To expand this to include the project phase, just add Text2 to the
grouping

Hope this helps.
