Grouping picture and autoshape in Word 2007

I am using Word 2007 for my schoolwork and I often use word to add text
labels to diagrams. I insert a picture of a scanning of a diagram then use
textboxes and arrows to label the diagram. Grouping Pictures and autoshapes
worked find in Word 2003 however, it doesn't work in the 2007 version.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to work around this problem?

I've had this issue too - Can't even group text box with a *.jpg for example
but can group text box with a shape from the gallery. I think i managed to
group files of the same type together.

Here is an idea for a workaround: Start out by using an ordinary autoshape
box, and choose your image as the "fill" for this box. Office 2007 will
hopefully think the box is just an "inconspicuous" box like the other boxes
and arrows in your drawing, and let it pass...

PS: Are you using a separate text box and an arrow to draw a callout on a
picture? If you haven't yet, you should have a look at the pre-made callouts
you'll find in the Autoshapes menu...!

You have to use a drawing canvas. Go to the insert page and at the bottom of
the shape pull-down you'll see insert drawing canvas. Then you can insert
pics, shapes, etc. and group them. I use screenshots with shapes constantly
and this drove me crazy until I found the answer. Hope this helps.
