Grouping pictures and shapes created in Word

Is it possible to "Group" graphic images, pictures, and shapes such as lines,
circles, and squares. In Word 2007 I can not group graphic images, and
pictures to each other or to shapes created in Word. I can only group shapes
created in Word with other shapes created in Word. Is this true?

JJ,
You are not alone in this, we have 10 people working on this issue at my
college. It has created a whole set of problems since previously we could do
it in 2003. I just posted basically your same question 5 minutes ago. We
cannot connect textboxes, lines, pictures together and have had to use
Publisher to create them and cut and paste them into our document. I hope
someone has an answer for this.

JJ & Kay -

Word 2007 does employ 2 separate graphics engines, but this is not an
insurmountable problem:)

You need to create a Drawing Canvas (Insert Tab> Shapes> New Drawing Canvas)
and include all the objects within it. You can then group them, and once
grouped the grouped object can be removed from the Canvas & the Canvas can
be deleted if you wish. Or you can keep everything on the Canvas &
resize/reposition as desired.
