Grouping projects on PWA

New2Project

Hello,

On the Project Center View, I have many, many projects in a long list. This
is very confusing as there are also administrative projects in there and many
internal projects, external projects etc.

Would it be possible to find a way to group these projects. For example I
would like to group all the internal projects together, external projects,
Large projects, small projects, admin projects on PWA?

I went on the view options and tried to group these but with no luck. Please
help me experts! THANK YOU! :)

Hi,
First of all create enterprise custom project fields based on which you want
to group the project. Make all those custom fields mandatory such that each
project will have to have that custom value before it can get published. Also
apply those fields to existing published projects.
Now goto manage views of the admin page either modify any of the existing
project centre view or create a new view so as to include all the enterprise
custom project fields.
If you now apply that view and goto group, filter search options then that
new field appears there and you can group your projects based on it
This should work for you.
If its not very clear i will give you step wise details of how to go about it

Ok will do that.
1. Create enterprise custom field
a. Open the enterprise global in professional
b. Tools-Customise-fields. Check on project.
c. In type select text. Give it a specific name by renaming it.
d. If required you can validate it by clicking on value list and giving
the required
values for e.g external, internal.
e. Click ok. In this manner you can create as many custom project fields
as you want
f. Close project
2. Apply those custom field to all the projects
a. In the project centre view select the project and click on edit.
b. All the custom fields will appear for each project give the required
value
c. Click save and close
3. Editing the existing view.
a. Go to manage views of the admin page
b. In project centre select summary and click on modify.
c. Under available fields select the custom field and add it to the
displayed fields.
d. Save these changes.
4. Grouping in the project centre view
a. Goto the project centre view
b. Make sure in choose a view Summary is selected
c. Click on filter, group and search option
d. Under group by you will get the name of the new custom field which can
be selected.
e. All the projects will thus be grouped as required.

Hope it works for you now.

Manmeet,

Something is not working correctly......

2. Apply those custom field to all the projects
a. In the project centre view select the project and click on edit.
b. All the custom fields will appear for each project give the required
value

Thats the problem, the custom field IS NOT appearing when I click on edit! I
already have an existing custom field in there but I don't know how to delete
it.

If you cannot do iti n project centre open the project in professional.
Goto project- project information- and enter the value there.

To delete a field goto enterprise global and then tools- organiser.
Fields can be deleted from there

That is the problem. The enterprise field is not even appearing in Project
Information! Is it because it has not been checked in? I have definitely
created it!

Manmeet,

Hey I sorted it. It works brilliantly now, so ignore my last post! Sorry
about that. One last thing, if I were to create a brand new view (Manage
views), would I be able to apply a filter to that view? For example filter
'Internal Projects'? I know you can filter it by going onto 'Options, filter'
in Project Center but I would like it to be filtered when I click on my new
view.

Thank you.

Hi,
Yes you can very well apply a filter while creating a new view.
That option is available when you goto create a new view, or modify an
existing view.
Thus when you apply that view you will always get that filtered list of
projects.

Hi Manmeet,

Yes I just tried it when you create a new view. One problem though. You have
to filter by Outline codes!! That is not what I want though right? I just
want to filter all internal projects everytime this new view is clicked
without going onto Options>Filter in Project Center all the time. Saves the
hassle.

Thanks for replying back :)
