Grouping Tasks

Some more help needed for a novice new to Project

The project I am managing has grown into a large number of individual tasks,
and I need to associate each task with the department in the organisation who
will take prime responsibility for the task. So, I need to flag each task
with the responsible department. Later, I would, for example, want to print
the tasks belonging to a selected department, and perhaps divide the main
project into one sub-project for each department.

Any help would be much appreciated – as ever!

The quick answer is to use the groups field although this free text

Option 2 is to create a custom field - go to tools > customise > fields

Select the tasks radio button

Choose the text option in the type drop down list

Select the next available entry and rename e.g. Department
Select the value list button
Add the departments to the list and click ok

Add the new field to a view//table

Populate each task with a value from the new field

You can not create groups and filters to structure your view

Jim,
It sounds like the Grouping function is what you want. Look for
"Grouping" in the Project help file.

Hope this helps.
