Guess drop down, can I delete?

Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

When I enter for the TO field so send an e mail, I'm confronted by a dropdown list of names. Is there a way so I can delete some of these? A lot of these are names that are not in my address book, and they clutter things up. thanks!
