Guestbook Problems

The Gusetbook feature requires that you are hosted on a
server that supports the Front Page Extensions (the
extensions do the form processing on the server). You
must further publish your site to this host using
the "http" method of publishing. If you use FTP to
publish, you will "break" the extensions and your
guestbook will stop working. You cannot test your
guestbook within Front Page.

Also the term "webmaster" and "system log" refer to the
host machine. Thus you would consult with your host when
your receive such an error message.

I am hosted on a server that except FP extentions, I use the paysite at
yahoo. Also I am using Frontpage 2002, as it will not except 2003. Also I
do publish using http not ftp.

Hi,

Yes I did contact the host. The guy at yahoo was not much help. He said he
didn't see any reason for it not to work, as he was able to post. He posted
the hello, as you will see if you visit the page. But after we got off the
phone, I tried again on different computer and received the error message
again so..........I don't know what else to do.

it)? Dunno never used the guestbook.

Guestlog.htm and guestbook.htm should be in the main web root folder,
*not* the _private folder. The host will have access to that folder, which
is probably why they were able to post. Try moving them to the root folder
and try again.

I put the guestlog back in the main folder and republished both the guestlog
and the guestpage again. Still the same error.

Ok, recalculated hyperlinks...still the same error. Should I just delete
that page and start over with a fresh new page??

Not correct
Any file which writes under the FP SE should be in a folder w/ write permissions
- by default only the _private folder has write permissions (not the root)




I would, probably be faster then fussing with it, just don't put it in private folder this time

You can use FP2003 with any host that supports FP2002, no matter what they
say. The host, however, may have no knowledge of FP2003.

Hmm, my guestbook files are all in the main web root and they work fine.
That's where they have always been and I haven't had a problem. I am on a
Linux host though.
