Guidance when importing from MS Std 2003 to MS Pro/ Server 2007

We are planning a import a whole bunch of MS Project Standard 2003 files to
Project Server 2007, but we are wondering what should we expect or how best
to handle the existing actuals.

Ideally, we would like to be able to use the Data Analysis feature to look
back and see a year's worth of historical data via the PWA Data Analysis
views. Is this realistic?

What we want to avoid is inconsistancies in historical data between the
different cubes/ views (i.e., project, assignment, timesheet, etc.).

Any suggestions, and/ or real life experiences out there that may help guide
us when it comes to importing?

Hi ST,

MS Project has an import wizard that you may want to use. Open Project Pro
and connect to Project Server. Go to Tools > Enterprise Option > Import
Project to Enterprise..... The wizard will lead you through the process. This
should import your 2003 schedule. Once you have saved and published the
project you can rebuild your cube and should have the historical data that
you are after.
I hope that helps

Hi Mark,

I know about the import wizard, but what I want to know is less trivial.
Ie., specifically, is there a way to deal with the fact that, for example, a
cube such as Timesheet would not contain the same historical data as the
other cubes since the actuals where input using the wizard and not entered
via the Timesheets?

Spiro:

Your biggest issue with importing these projects is that they all probably
have different calendars that will cause shifts in actual data when you
bring them into the server, which will have one standard calendar. Unless
you've been rigorous with standards in your stand-alone world, this is
unavoidable. With that said, the historical actual work data will show up in
the "Project Timesheet" cube when these are imported and published, however
if you are now deciding to use the Timesheet feature in 2007, this
information will not be available in the "Timehseet" cube as this shows only
data entered through the Timesheet feature.
