I want to write the chemical symbol for water H20, but I
cant figure out how to make the 2 smaller as it should be
(you cant do it correctly by changing the font size). Can
anyone please help?

Select the 2 and press Ctrl+=, which formats it as Subscript. You can
accomplish the same thing by going to Format | Font and checking the box for
Subscript.
