Hi Doug -
Relax, your security is *not* compromised. What it means is that someone has
a copy your Groove vCard - your virtual 'business card' in the Groove world -
and they used it to send you a message. Your vCard contains your name,
contact details and a unique number that identifies you in the Groove
'world'. It has no more security implications than the business cards in
your wallet.
People can get your vCard in a number of ways:
* If you are listed in the Groove Public Directory,
* If you are in a space with them,
* If someone else has forwarded it to them.
You can make yourself less visible by removing your entry from the Groove
Public Directory - choose Options | Preferences from the main menu. Look at
the 'List me in' settings and make sure you're happy with them. Choose "No
Listing" for the Groove Public Directory and Groove will (eventually) remove
you. It can take a while for the change to percolate through all of Groove's
servers.
You, or your Groove account administrator if you have one, can choose not to
receive messages from people not in your personal contacts list. This doesn't
stop the message being sent - Groove just silently throws it away.
In over five years of Groove usage, I've had two entirely unsolicited spam
messages. I get more than that per hours on my regular email. You can find
*my* vCard and send me an instant message if you want - I won't mind
