I read this from a post back in June by Bob Buckland:
You can copy the CDs to the hard drive and install from there as one
option. A 'complete' installation is an installed rendering of
the apps, it isn't the original CD or a CD image. That's what needs
to be available to 'self heal' the apps.

Here's my question:
I installed Excel 2000 from the CD. Now I want to update, and
the updater is having trouble finding some files it wants, even when I
insert the CD.
How would it be if I changed the values in the registry, so
that the references to the original installation location is no longer
D=CD drive etc. etc., but instead is C-look here. And then if I
copied just the *.msi files or whatever the program wants into the
C-look here folder.
Would that work?
